Invasion of the Hot Italians

Story: The Pandorica Opens
Written By: Steven Moffat
Length: 45 Minutes
Year: 2010

The penultimate episode to Series 5 of Doctor Who is a great episode. Moffat uses a similar style of having a bigger threat for the huge finale, yet makes it move a little slower and with a darker tone. The slower pacing is a welcome change to the long standing big budget fast paced affairs we had under Davies (remember I was a big Davies fan and loved most of those finales). Change is good though, and I was thrilled and intrigued with most of this series' puzzles beginning to come together, and the cliffhanger left me not so much in utter shock, but just completely ready for the conclusion.
The return of both River and Rory were well executed, and the use of many little elements established throughout the series, both from episodes I liked and didn't like was welcome. Loved seeing all those monsters together...in and alliance!

I am not at all sure how any or all of this will play out, no clue as to how the Doctor, Amy, poor ol' Rory, and River are going to escape their current fates, but while it wasn't the SHOCK of the Doctor surprisingly regenerating, or the fear of Earth being obliterated by the Master...the conclusion felt like...everything is wrong and bad, and there are so many questions still left to be answered that I can't help but wonder how it will both pick back up and ultimately end.

NEXT TIME: Enemies of a Time Lord
