Story: The Sarah Jane Adventures: The Vault of Secrets
Written By: Phil Ford
Length: 2 Episodes
Year: 2010
The second episode is another solid installment this season. This second story involves the return of the Androvax, last seen in the Prisoner of Judoon. This time he claims to just be trying to save his people. Sarah decides to trust him, but unfortunately he is risking earth again.
I enjoyed the androids in Mister Dread and company, even if they do feel like makeshift agents from the Matrix. I didn't even remember that these Men in Black-style androids were actually first introduced in Ford's "Dreamland", but much like that animated Doctor Who adventure, this is an episode filled with homages to 80s/90s action/sci-fi/fantasy/adventure films.
All in all this one moves with a good swift pace, and is enjoyable all the way through in both episodes. It also has the Androvax used better than his first appearance (while a decent story in its second episode, Prisoner of Judoon mostly used this character IN Sarah Jane) especially considering how good his make-up effects are. It also benefits from less cheesiness as in the first story this season.
I also liked that Luke is making minor cameos via webcam this series, hopefully this will continue on throughout (I know they did this in the first episode without Maria in the second series...but unlike Maria, I actually like Luke...also I understand he is meant to return in the finale).
