The Vardy

Story:Smile

The Doctor takes Bill on her first real trip in the TARDIS, and they end up on a colony planet that has no real lifeforms to speak of, only little Robots that speak in Emoji and flying nanobots.  Of course the smiley faced robots aren't all that they seem...as it turns out that anyone that stops being happy is immediately killed by the robots.
It is has elements we've seen before in classic and new Who, but when you think of the show as reintroducing it's main concepts again, it is a solid adventure.  My main complaint would probably come with the final moments of the episode, which really feel like a bit of a rush job. But if anything, the new rapport between the Twelfth Doctor and Bill help keep the episode alive and feeling fresh.

That's the real key so far to this series, Bill feels like a fresh new face for the show, breathing a bit of life into it.  Not that Clara was bad, I enjoyed her quite a bit, but Bill is bringing in a new outsiders look. Clara was very in the know, and Bill is someone who has little experience in the Doctor's world, so it just feels like seeing it all with fresh eyes. So even in an episode with an average premise (with decent execution), and a bit of a crummy rushed ending...it still feels fairly fun to just have this new character (with fresh takes on the universe) to explore.
