Story: Wild Blue Yonder
Written By: Russell T. Davies
Length: 60 Minutes

The TARDIS lands on some sort of spaceship on the edge of the universe which is empty apart from a slow moving robot, and is reconfiguring itself every now and then. The Doctor and Donna are soon trapped when the TARDIS takes off without them, likely due to a setting the TARDIS has to leave in the event of danger and only return when the danger is no more (a setting the Doctor thought he had long turned off but perhaps in it's latest reboot has been switched back on). The Doctor and Donna are soon tormented by two doppelgangers of themselves, who come from the nothingness outside the universe and wish to overtake the TARDIS team and devour the universe. This a solid episode. Whereas the opener of this 14th Doctor trilogy was big and bombastic and had a ton of characters, this is a smaller affair, one which focuses in on the Doctor and Donna. Tennant and Tate get to play both heroes and villains, and it is a story that relies entirely on their performances. Apart from the utterly goofy opening where they briefly meet Isaac Newton as he discovers gravity, the episode is basically just the two of them alone on a ship, facing sinister versions of themselves. It had splashes of episodes like "Heaven Sent" or "Midnight." I don't think it is as good as either of those stories, and I think if nothing else the Newton gag took it down a few notches for me, but the bulk of this episode is just a good creepy story, that works really well.
And right at the end, when the day is won, they get back to Earth...and good ol' Wilf is there! Oh my goodness was it lovely to see him again. Especially poignant knowing Bernard Cribbins passed after filming for this series. I look forward to anything else we get from him next week, and to have this trilogy wrap up against the Toymaker!
