Space 1969

Story: The Impossible Astronaut
Written By: Steven Moffat
Length: 45 Minutes
Year: 2011

Series 6 officially kicks off with this episode, which is the first part of a two-parter. The episode is creepy, complicated, visually engaging, filled with funny character moments and scary dramatic stuff. In short: it was awesome.
Admittedly, it is also a bit confusing for the non-regular viewer I'm sure. I can only imagine it would be hard to keep up for new fans. That said I have a feeling Series 6 is going to wrap up some of Moffat's arcs such as the Silence (for the record, now that we've seen the Silence: they rule), why the TARDIS exploded last season, who River is, and probably saying goodbye to Amy and Rory. I expect next season will be like a refresh in way, and much like "The Eleventh Hour" it will be far easier for new fans to jump in.

I rather liked the idea that Amy and Rory have spent some time apart from the Doctor, and he had all sorts of adventures with River and by himself in the meantime. It actually almost seemed like the opening sequence in this episode was like the opening of "The Pandorica Opens", but we are actually seeing it BEFORE the Doctor goes on these adventures...I don't know we will see how it all plays out.

This episode is quite an exciting piece of television, and the "Silence" as a species is pretty damn creepy and unique. And a nice cliffhanger to boot!
