Story: The Beast Below
Written By: Steven Moffat
Length: 45 Minutes
Year: 2010
So now that Moffat has introduced his Doctor, his companion, his Series Arc, his TARDIS, and his sonic screwdriver...now he can just let loose and make Doctor Who his way. So the first real adventure for Doctor #11 and Amy Pond is...okay!
It is no masterpiece, but there are good Moffat ideas and interesting bits throughout. The visuals are pretty fantastic, and the space whale is...weird. But that's the good Doctor Who weird. There are definite elements from the past that are seeping through and Matt Smit hand Karen Gillan continue to do fine jobs in their roles.
In the end it isn't Moffat's best effort, but it is watchable, and if he can pull off the weirder stories as well as he did here, then I continue to believe that the show is in good hands, and that this series will be the strongest since Series 3.
The ending is also a nice little taste of next week's Dalek episode...with Winston Churchill.
