Story: The Sarah Jane Adventures: Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith
Written By: Clayton Hickman & Gareth Roberts
Length: 2 Episodes
Year: 2010
Finally a damn good finale for a Sarah Jane Adventures season. The best since the first season, which was only okay itself. We get a great villain in Ruby White, we get some real danger for our characters, and it doesn't make the major threat of the story be the planet. Sure the planet is a risk if our characters don't succeed, but the real task at hand is saving Sarah Jane.
Just like with Torchwood series 2, the writers have learned their lesson...the spin-offs need to make sure their finales are purely character based, with smaller threats (Although the threat was much larger in Torchwood: Children of Earth, the real drama came from the personal demons and losses of Jack).
We get K-9 and Luke returning, and unlike when the Brig made a wonderful appearance in part 1 of "Enemy of the Bane", Luke not only plays an important part in the finale...he basically saves the day...the Brigadier just kind of takes a seat in part 2 of that finale. I know they probably shot around his new school schedule, so Luke's appearance in these episodes are pretty limited, but I think they were a successful one anyhow.
So yeah, we finally got a strong conclusion to an SJA season, I'm very pleased with that.
