Story: Flesh and Stone
Written By: Steven Moffat
Length: 45 Minutes
Year: 2010
Moffat gives us a strong conclusion to his Weeping Angels/River Song two-part extravaganza. In fact I would say that all is missing is little kids in gas masks and 18th century France on the spaceship for this to be an all out "Best of Moffat" Special.
The story moves with good pace and the crack in the wall isn't just another lame spotlight in the background at the end of the episode. Finally things get noticed. Its leading up to something big, obviously, but now the Doctor is extra aware of the things going on around him, and he is mentally preparing himself.
River is even better in this episode than she was in the last, and I like that she seems to be doing things to prove how capable she is rather than just being smug about how someday for the Doctor she will be great for him. She also gave us a nice hint about the conclusion to this season, and that she will in fact be returning yet again. I think for maybe at least another year we will get this format with her. She will show up for a two-parter mid-series, then for the two part finale.
The ending with Amy going for the Doctor seems out of the blue, but I think it worked for the episode, and for the following episodes.
NEXT TIME: Rory Joins the TARDIS
