Cubed

Story: The Power of Three
Written By: Chris Chibnall
Length: 45 Minutes
Year: 2012

It's as if Chibnall has figured out how to write properly for Doctor Who, in much the same way he had figured out how to properly write Torchwood during it's second season.  With this more character-driven story on top of his more plot and humor oriented "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" a couple episodes ago, it seems as if the guy finally has a handle on how to write a solid episode that is fun.  This one focuses more on the Ponds as they seriously consider ending their adventures with the Doctor...as they are starting to truly enjoy their life at home, and not miss the adventures so much.
The Cubes plot is fairly simple and is decent enough, but it's conclusion is weak, as it is just sort of  "Blow up the ship and we've won it!" kind of thing.  Too easy...not that the plot demanded a really complex wrap-up, but it did feel too simple.  But it was so enjoyable beforehand that it is hard to complain.

I'm surprised that so far this season the best episodes have been from Chibnall, who I had been unimpressed with (beyond his second season work on Torchwood) so far.  I'm glad he has found success in his scripts for the parent series, for his work has been very enjoyable.
