Story: Planet of Evil
Written By: Louis Marks
Length: 4 Episodes
Year: 1975

"Planet of Evil" is a decent story, but not my favorite. It has legendary Who padding and is occasionally bogged down by it. The story also relies a little too heavily on Who cliches, the land, discover some murder, and are immediately and often blamed for it. Of course the Doctor and Sarah didn't kill anyone, but throughout the episode despite and evidence towards the case, the same character will claim and holler that they are the cause of everything wrong in their lives. And when tons of evidence to the contrary comes in, he still denies it.
Now "Planet of Evil" has some good marks to, its villain is well performed at times, and the monster is unique and looks pretty good. The setpieces on the planet are amazing. Unfortunately everyone is in that classic Who "future jumpsuit" that they either reuse often or just make similar designs of...in which future people where giant shoulder pads and have big puffy piping along the trim...hard to look at.

The serial is okay, but not great.  It is the first story to be commissioned by Producer Phillip Hinchcliffe, as the previous season and "Terror of the Zygons" were all stories initially commissioned by outgoing Producer Barry Letts.
