Beneath the Surface

Story: Warriors of the Deep
Written By: Johnny Byrne
Length: 4 Episodes
Year: 1984

I liked both the Silurians and the Sea Devils, both in the original respective stories...being that the two creatures are meant to be related makes the idea of bringing them together seem like a great idea, both have failed in the past to reclaim the Earth. The Silurians were so close to make their peace with the humans and they got burned...the freaked out humans attacked them and killed the Silurians who had agreed to peace. Neither had been in the show since Pertwee left.
So with a bitten group of Silurians teaming up with Sea Devils the potential for a gripping tale is there. Unfortunately it falls flat. The story is dull, and the Myrka is a terrible looking monster that wouldn't scare a 4 year old.

The only good thing this story achieved was changing the Sea Devils costume from the hideous mesh dress they wore previously, to a more bad ass looking Samurai armor uniform. The change is welcome. Unfortunately the story makes little to no sense, and neither creature works on the same level they had before. Add to which the name Silurians and Sea Devils were only given to them by man in their respective stories, so the fact they've adopted it to call themselves now makes no sense.

Everything is pretty bad here.
