The Visitor

Story: Castrovalva
Written By: Christopher H. Bidmead
Length: 4 Episodes
Year: 1982

Peter Davison's debut story is here! A new Doctor! First time in 7 years! Its terrible!
Seriously, his debut is a pretty bad story all around. A good portion of it makes no sense, another portion is badly acted, and the rest of the portions are Adric...so there's that.

Davison himself has often stated that he hates his debut tale, and no one can really blame him. But to be fair, look at every Doctor's debut story...they mostly blow. Hartnell's was fine but a little slow, Troughton's was just a run of the mill Dalek story, Pertwee's is actually decent, and Tom Baker had Robot...which is only slightly better than Castrovalva.

If you don't guess that the Portreeve is actually Anthony Ainley and the Master...you might need glasses or an IQ test.

The saving grace of the story is in Episode One, in which the Fifth Doctor slowly takes off the Fourth Doctor's costume, and unravels the scarf completely. I really liked that whole sequence right up to the introduction of the new Cricket outfit. It is a bit too stylized, but when it comes down to it, it fits this Doctor and his era pretty well. Even if I would have preferred a more down to Earth Cricket costume.
