This story isn't all that good. The villain looks pretty bad, and it is sort of a weak return for the Brigadier. The original plan was to bring back Ian Chesterton, but scheduling conflicts screwed it up. So they went to the old stand by, The Brigadier, now I like the character and Nicholas Courtney, but his appearance in this episode, being a teacher and what not just doesn't make any sense.
Other than that the returning villain is the Black Guardian, and he will appear in the next two stories as well, in what is now referred to as the Black Guardian trilogy. The Black Guardian uses a schoolboy, Turlough, to get his revenge on the Doctor. Turlough joins the TARDIS crew in this story, but he will fight off his alliance with the Guardian until Enlightenment.
