Story: The Parting of Ways
Written By: Russell T. Davies
Length: 45 Minutes
Year: 2005
The finale to the first series of Doctor Who is a great episode. It has so many elements going for it, and for me everything works. Jack heads up the rag tag army to fight off the Daleks, while the Doctor creates a bomb that will destroy the Daleks once and for all.
Oh right last week’s cliffhanger. He saves Rose…meets the emperor, no big whoop. The emperor! Damn, he hadn’t been in the show since Patrick Troughton. This is the first time this guy has been in COLOR!
So the Doctor sends Rose home in the TARDIS, because he knows he’s got no shot of winning. But she’s a relentless person who puts the whole Bad Wolf thing together and heads back to the Doctor, by using the Heart of the TARDIS. She is filled with the time vortex and destroys the Daleks, bring Jack back to life, and then her brain starts to melt, so the Doctor saves her. By kissing. Now Kissing freaked out the sad Who fans from the parent’s basement all the way back in 1996 when McGann kissed that stupid doctor lady. But it works well here. The Doctor takes her into the TARDIS and flies off...leaving Jack behind.
Within the TARDIS, Rose wakes up. She can’t remember what just went down. The Doctor sees his hands a glowing and knows shits about to get weird…so he makes things easy for Rose, by giving her a nice little farewell speech, which just before she’s confused beyond repair…the Doctor makes sure that she will never be not confused again…by bursting into light and turning into David Tennant.
Those wacky Doctors...just once you’d think they explain this weirdness before it happens.
