The Fate of Peri

Story: The Trial of a Time Lord, Parts 5-8: Mindwarp
Written By: Phillip Martin
Length: 4 Episodes
Year: 1986

"Mindwarp" is a decent continuation of the Trial storyline, although the trial tneds to become annoying at this point, as it constantly interrupts the action of the actually good story. Add to that our clever hero spends the entire time making fun of the villain's name, then you start to hate him.
One thing that has greatly improved by this season is the rapport of Baker and Bryant, who decided to take control of that aspect. They no longer let the writers determine how they act, and make them completely aggravating. Even Bryant's American accent has improved. Unfortunately they kill her off. But Peri goes out with a bang, and its wonderful.

I would say that in my opinion, "Mindwarp" is the strongest story in the Trial. The return of Sil is pretty good, and the whole story and execution (for the most part) are exceptional. Even the lighting in this story is better (the preceding story also looks darker for once, but mostly due to location shooting, the studio shots are as bright as most of the 80s). Unfortunately some of the questions raised in the first two stories (even the third) fall apart in the Trial's final act.
