Doctor Who: Season 20 Recap

This was a decent season, but it felt like it was no better or worse than Season 19. It was still hit or miss throughout. The idea of bringing back classic villains for each story would have been a lot stronger if they actually did that.

They bring back the Mara, big deal she made her first appearance the season before. Black Guardian, who made a minor appearance at the end of Key to Time, gets THREE stories. Bring him back for one and you can bring back two more classic villains. Then we bring back the Master...again he just had his triumphant return so its not that big of an impact.

Of all the returning villains, only Omega was a real RETURN to the show, the rest had either made their first appearance in the late 70s or in the first few years of the 80s. Of the returning villains nothing created prior to 1971 comes back. Thats a big crying shame. The Cybermen, Daleks, and Yeti get cameos in the Five Doctors. BIG DEAL.

This season should have brought the Yeti back for a full story, something they haven't had since the 60s. Maybe bring back the Ice Warriors, they were popular once. You could bring back the Sea Devils or Silurians (oh wait they do that next season...it was pretty bad).

Overall the ideas just excel the way they pretend they do to celebrate this big year.
