Story: The Dalek Invasion of Earth
Written By: Terry Nation
Length: 6 Episodes
Year: 1964

This is a great story. The first, in my opinion, really exciting Doctor Who serial. The Doctor and Co. land in London, in the far future...it is in shambles. They soon discover that the Daleks have taken over the planet. Eventually we learn that the Daleks are trying to move the Earth by removing the core of the planet, and in its place place a motor.
The story is completely impossible, but its a real fun adventure to watch. The Doctor is smart and clever throughout, and Ian is a true action adventure hero. Susan slowly falls for a man during the course of the story, and struggles with her feelings for him and her devotion to her grandfather. In the end, the Doctor sees through her, and can see the torment she is feeling...and he decides to make the decision for her. He closes the TARDIS doors and locks her out.

What comes next is truly touching, the Doctor's farewell speech to Susan is one of the best speeches in the entire course of the series...and its been quoted a million times by fans, and a segment of it was featured in the Five Doctors as a way of getting the Late Hartnell in there somehow. I was glad to see her go when I was watching this, but Hartnell made me a little sad...impressive for a character I never really liked.

Action, Adventure, Science Fiction, and a touch of emotion makes this one of the best Hartnell stories ever made. Certainly one of the better Dalek stories, and there were many of the Hartnell era.
