The Ice Tombs of Telos

Story: Tomb of the Cybermen
Written By: kit Pedler and Gerry Davis
Length: 4 Episodes
Year: 1967

"The Tomb of the Cybermen" is the earliest surviving complete Patrick Troughton story. It also happens to be the only story featuring Victoria to be complete in its entirety. Just having it is wonderful, the fact that it happens to be one of the really great stories is even better.
So how does it hold up? Pretty good. Its simple and straightforward and is really about The Doctor verses the Cybermen. It doesn't get too complicated, and its all the better for it. Being only 4 episodes helps as well, as it isn't too padded. The story moves fairly quickly, which admittedly was often a problem for Classic Doctor Who. Victoria seems to be, from what I can see, a fan favorite...or at least she has a lot of fans. I like Victoria, but I don't love her by any stretch of the imagination. She was often too scared. I'm not a big fan of companions that are constantly screaming. I prefer tougher companions. Victoria is also from the past, the Victorian Era. Having the Doctor paired up with two companions from the past is interesting, but I really like the dynamic of the Doctor with Jamie and Zoe, as it has a companion from the past and one from the future.

This story has the iconic moment of the Cybermen breaking through their Tombs and having a rather epic reveal. Its a classic Who moment, and this might possibly be one of the best Cybermen story...great look, facing off with Troughton, straightforward story, iconic moments...its got many elements that are hard to beat.  Really it is just lovely to have a complete story for Troughton.
