Story: The Faceless Ones
Written By: David Ellis & Malcolm Hulke
Length: 6 Episodes
Year: 1967
"The Faceless Ones" is rather padded, but it has some rather fun moments. It also has Parts 1 and 3 in their complete form. 2 out of 6 is better than...None out of 6. Some good moments are Jamie's referral to airplanes as great big winged beasties, and really any moment with Jamie, who is just a really well performed character. It could have been better if limited to 4 episodes, but even better if all 6 parts existed, and I wasn't writing the review of a slideshow with original audio.
This story is notable though for the departure of Ben and Polly, who realize that they've returned home only about moments after the left with the First Doctor at the end of "The War Machines". They say their goodbyes and The Doctor and Jamie soon discover that the TARDIS is missing. It is also notable that because the other two were departing, The Doctor and Jamie's relationship finally begins to take shape, and by the time the next story starts, the two become a fine double act.
