Jamie McCrimmon

Story: The Highlanders
Written By: Elwyn Jones & Gerry Davis
Length: 4 Episodes
Year: 1967

"The Highlanders" has two important marks on the series history. The first is that until the 80s, this was the very last historical episode. Instead, if the Doctor ventured to the past, he would face off an alien or sci-fi threat there. So this is the last of the (quite often) boring historicals. The other important mark of this episode is the introduction of one of the longest serving companions, who from here on out is the Doctor's right hand man. The Scottish highlander from the past, Jamie McCrimmon.
Because of the missing status of this episode, sometimes its hard to tell through muffled audio which scottish highlander is talking at once. The accents are probably fake for the most part, and I know that Jamie's is. So its not real easy to judge Jamie here. But for the Troughton years two things remain perfectly constant, The Second Doctor and Jamie. Theres something very lovable about Jamie. His accent, the kilt, his bravery, his sometimes being very unbrave, and his undeniable trust he puts into the Doctor.

Anyhow "The Highlanders" is your standard historical tale, its rather good they did away with them, as they became more and more standard as time went on. At least we got to make the last one count, by meeting good ol' Jamie.
