Doctor Who: Season Four Recap

Season Four has that sad distinction of being known as the "most missing" season of Doctor Who. Patrick Troughton has more stories than some of the Doctor's in the 80s, but not enough exist completely to be represented on DVD. He was a fantastic Doctor, one of my favorites and it is a shame.

Season four is a season of BIG changes though. William Hartnell's health got the better of him, and the production team found the most inventive way to change leads, a change that makes this show able to run for so very very long. Patrick Troughton becomes our hero, and he is much more active than his predecessor. Jamie is introduced, and Ben and Polly leave...who are in turn replaced by Victoria in the final story. The Daleks made the final appearence until 1972, and the new main recurring monsters became the Cybermen, introduced in Hartnell's swan song, and would appear again with Troughton at the helm.

Doctor Who is on the whole surprisingly more stable than Season 3, which suffered from too many cast changes...yet Season 4 had the biggest cast change possible - The Doctor. I think the show finally got a little more stable behind the scenes, and some stronger more original writers. All of that with a lead that was able to remember his lines made this season much smoother than the last.
