Story: The Romans
Written By: Dennis Spooner
Length: 4 Episodes
Year: 1965
"The Romans" is the first attempt at a comedy story in Doctor Who. I must say Hartnell is pretty funny, and has a fight sequence, which is fantastic to see...the old grump in a game of fisticuffs. I think the relationship between Vicki and The doctor is already strong, and its only her first trip in the TARDIS.
The Crew land in Rome and decide to make a total holiday of it, they wear robes, lounge about, shop in markets, and look like they aren't too much bothered by it. The Doctor pretends to play music in a trick against Nero, and its all played for laughs...its really a pretty enjoyable experience.
The story is funny, just enjoy it for the laughs, Hartnell is quite good in this one.
