The Meddling Monk

Story: The Time Meddler
Written By: Dennis Spooner
Length: 4 Episodes
Year: 1965

"The Time Meddler" starts off with the discovery of Steven Taylor hiding in the TARDIS. It must be said that of the Hartnell era, the First Doctor/Vicki/Steven team is my favorite. Steven is the dashing hero that Ian was, only younger, stronger, wittier, and without Barbara kind of tagging along/cramping his style.
The story itself takes place in 1066, and the Doctor discovers the Monk, a meddling time traveler from the Doctor's own yet-to-be-named race. The story is good, with the Monk attempting to change history for his own gain. It also deals with some pretty heavy stuff...well pretty heavy implied stuff. At one point it is implied that a woman was raped. Thats deep stuff for a Saturday afternoon kids show.

In the end the Doctor steals an item from the monk's TARDIS, the item that makes the TARDIS bigger on the inside....thus the TARDIS is now tiny on the inside...and th Monk is stranded in 1066.

"The Time Meddler" is fun to watch and is both exciting and smart. A good end to a pretty solid season.
