Story: The Sea Devils
Written By: Malcolm Hulke
Length: 6 Episodes
Year: 1972
"The Sea Devils" is one of my absolute favorites. The visuals are great, as is the use of the Navy in the story. I think I really like Naval stories...which would explain my admiration of both Hornblower and Star Trek.
The Sea Devils themselves are the underwater cousins to the monsters seen in Season 7, the Silurians. They begin to invade the shores after some help from The Master, who has hypnotized his Warden and been able to secretly move in and out of his prison, after being captured at the end of the Daemons.
For a 6-parter this story features very little padding, and is truly a joy from beginning to end. From Delgado's triumphant return as the Master, to the sword fight between the Master and the Doctor (as well as the dialogue between the two in the Doctor's prison visit), to the eventual Navy/UNIT battle with the Sea Devils.
The Doctor, Master, Jo, The Brig, Monsters, and the entire supporting cast...are just fantastic and a joy to watch. Definately on my most see list for any NuWho fan looking to see the classics of the Classic Who.
