Story: The Chase
Written By: Terry Nation
Length: 6 Episodes
Year: 1965
The Chase is sort of a love or hate it kind of thing. Its easy to go towards the latter. The writing is pretty weak and the comedy isn't there. The jokes for the most part are on the villains, the Daleks...in the midst of Dalekmania. They are turned from the scariest of the monsters to silly little gag monsters. They really earn the salt and pepper shaker jokes here.
The main problem is that its written as a comedy and isn't funny. If that were the only problem you might be able to live with it, but it isn't. It is 6 episodes too long. Way too much padding and time wasted on trying to get a laugh.
All of this is a shame, as it is the final appearances of Ian and Barbara, who have been with us since the beginning. The Doctor is finally able to fix the TARDIS, and gains some more control over her. Therefore he is able to finally take the two school teachers home. They think about it, and make the choice..its time to return. They get there...close enough, but instead of 1963 is 65. Their final goodbye is sad, but ends up being really weird with a photo montage of them apparently running through London. No place like home I guess.
The episode also introduces Steven, who at the end of the story is hiding in the TARDIS.
