Doctor Who: Season One Recap

And so started Doctor Who. There is a lot to like about this first season, but it is uneven. The show didn't really know where it was going, and while there are some good stories, its not really until Season Two that the show begins to get a bit of a stride. But the phenomenon of the Daleks brought the show right into the spotlight from the beginning, and the show was very popular right from the get-go.

Historically important stories like "An Unearthly Child" and "The Daleks" are important more for what they do than how the stories actually unfold. Neither is the height of Doctor Who, but because one is the debut story and the other is the debut of everyone's favorite recurring villain, they are highly regarded...as they should be.

William Hartnell is pretty cool as the Doctor, and Ian is a great male companion, something I always feel gets neglected these days. Barbara is decent, but can be rather bland at times...and Susan...well Susan just gets on my nerves.

The all important start to the iconic show, this season would be bested by many future seasons, but there are good stories found here, and the show was off and running, even with a dud here and there.
