Story: The Ark in Space
Written By: Robert Holmes
Length: 4 Episodes
Year: 1975
As far as I'm concerned, "Robot" is the end to the UNIT years, whereas "The Ark in Space" is the start of the Tom Baker Era. It is the start of the "Wandering Through Time and Space with Sarah Jane and Harry" Arc that makes up the rest of Season 12.
This story itself is a great Robert Holmes tale, featuring a Space Station with hibernating human beings, and the Wirrrn, a great bug villain. The costumes are cheap, but I love the Wirrrn. I even love the Big Finish audio story featuring the Eighth Doctor.
This story proves Baker's chops far better than Robot did. I certainly turned around to him as the Doctor here. At the end of the story the Doctor, Harry, and Sarah Jane teleport down to the surface of a planet to fix a transmat for the Humans on the ship.
NEXT TIME: Return of the Potato Monsters
