Captain John Hart

Story: Torchwoood: Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
Written By: Chris Chibnall
Length: 50 Minutes
Year: 2008

Right off the bat things are looking better. Jack returns to Torchwood, but they've made attempts to carry on without him. The great thing about this opening episode is that suddenly all of our characters are somewhat defined, and the roles within the team become much clearer. Owen is the medical man, and in this episode, as well as in following episodes, he makes use of his skills as a doctor. Tosh is the tech, shes good with technology. Ianto is somewhat promoted, actually doing field work...but they make it clear hes out of place. Gwen is the...carer?
Okay so Gwen isn't as clearly defined, but she was for one reason or another promoted in Jack's place in his absence. Jack returns as their leader, plain and simple...he can lead the fucking team, which is not something he was really doing in the first season. Maybe he just needed to see his Doctor to get his shit together.

Now we also meet another former Time Agent, and ex-lover to Jack, Captain John Hart. Hart is a great baddie...the kind of guy you love to hate...oh I guess he is just playing Spike again. That is okay. I like Spike.

The plot is simple but effective. It serves the characters, and not the other way around for once. It is a great episode that really gives Torchwood a rebirth, which frankly it desperately needed at this point. Hart reveals near the end that he "found Grey". Jack seems weirded out by this statement...and clearly we are gonna catch up on that one later.

Great start to a superior season.
