I Win

Story: Last of the Time Lords
Written By: Russell T. Davies
Length: 51 Minutes
Year: 2007

Last time, you’ll remember, things fell the fuck apart. Earth has been all but destroyed, the Master is in total control, the Doctor is frail and old, and Martha is on Earth by herself.
Things aren’t going well, and even little attempts by the Doctor and company to win fall through. Nothing is coming up Doctor. And things get wierd…the Master turns the Doctor into a caged hobbit Doctor. Weird!

Oh and the Toclafane? Made up! Turns out they are actually the degenerated descendants of the humans from Utopia…end of the universe is a bitch!
Eventually the Master finds and catches Martha, destroys her supposed method of killing him and takes her to kill her in front of the Doctor before he destroys the universe or whatever.

Unfortunately, the method of killing the master was a total lie. In actuality it’s thought that will bring him down. Hokey. But I love it…and it makes sense. It turns out that the Master held the whole time the Doctor captive and he was being a weird little bird-man hobbit guy, he was tuning himself into the 15 satellite phone system, and uses its hypnotic power against the Master himself. He took the Master’s whole plan and used it against him. Then Jack destroys the paradox machine, with the paradox broken, time reverses, and the only people that know how that last year went down are those aboard the Valiant.

The Master loses. He ain’t happy about it. But the Doctor decides to keep the Master in the TARDIS with him. But the Master’s abused wife has other plans. She shoots him. The Doctor pleads with him to regenerate, finally having found another time lord alive, but the Master refuses. His final line “I win” is all kinds of awesome. It’s all around a great moment, tarnished slightly by the Doctor’s Darth Vader funeral for the Master.

Ready to take off on more adventures, Martha says no, she is not sticking around with him. She can’t. It makes perfect sense too. Jack also decides to stick it out on his spin off because he knows he will get more screen time there, and that is important.

So our hero is once again left all alone, with no one to keep him company. And the Titanic crashes into his house.
