This episode is notable for its introduction of the Trickster, who would reappear in the next two Sarah Jane series and get a mention in Doctor Who itself. This story is pretty decent, as Maria awakes to discover she is the only one who can remember Sarah Jane.
The Trickster has gone back in time, and switched the places of a girl who died when Sarah was a young girl. So instead this girl lives and Sarah dies. Maria of course saves the day. The plot isn't all that important, but what is important is that the series is actually pretty consistent from Eye of the Gorgon on.
