Story: The Fires of Pompeii
Written By: James Moran
Length: 50 Minutes
Year: 2008
This is a decent episode. It’s pretty strong despite not being the best in the world. I enjoyed a lot of the characters and thought the overall feel of the piece worked well. The Volcano monster was pretty sweet itself.
Really what makes it work is the choice. The Doctor is faced with the choice of either blowing up Mount Vesuvius and killing everyone in Pompeii, or he doesn’t blow it up, and the entire planet is destroyed. That’s the kind of struggle I like to see in this character from time to time.
In the end it’s a decent result, it's not Top Tier Who, but it is a quality adventure with some good dramatic stuff worked in.
