Professor Yana

Story: Utopia
Written By: Russell T. Davies
Length: 45 Minutes
Year: 2007

This is a great and wonderful episode, if only for the final 15 minutes. We get to meet Derek Jacobi as Professor Yana, who is so nice you want him to hang around all the time. Unfortunately…
First off, we see the return of Captain Jack Harkness, who the Doctor stranded in order to give him time to star in a spin-off. We face the issue of just why the Doctor skipped town without him. Jack can no longer die, you see, and if you were watching Torchwood you knew that already. But the reason is finally explained – Rose. Oh Rose. How much we’ve pined for you this season. But anyhow the last 15 minutes with the Professor.

See, the Professor has this watch you see. A watch not unlike the Doctor’s from “Human Nature.” Shits going down. The Doctor really worries about the implications of this when he hears about it. For those in the know about these things…you know what is coming, and you find yourself yelling, “don’t open that fucking watch!” But he does. And he says those triumphant wonderful words that are “I am the Master”. Yana, it’s what that face in the tank was babbling about Y.A.N.A. (You are not alone).

His assistant shoots him though, and he must regenerate into Sam Tyler, I mean John Simm. And we know that things are gonna be epic over the next two episodes. Davies doesn’t disappoint. Me at least.
