Story: Torchwoood: Random Shoes
Written By: Jacquetta May
Length: 50 Minutes
Year: 2006
Dear Lord. This episodes format feels almost too close to Doctor Who's "Love & Monsters". The character of Eugene is too close a copy of Elton. Add to that his character makes no sense in the context of Torchwood. Oh he's just this guy who kinda hangs around the team sometimes, trying to be friends or something with them. Except we never saw him before. His connection to the team feels completely and utterly artificial. Much like the plot devises and character traits of the main cast in this first season, everything feels like its produced to serve whatever purpose the writers want for that specific scene or episode.
There's a moment in Eugene's childhood where his dad gets SO MAD that Eugene lost an education contest, and I guess because the dad had to go see him, that he decided to LEAVE THE FAMILY FOREVER. What the hell happened to the Torchwood writers when they were children. I mean COME ON. We've had bad parents in "Small Worlds" and now here, and Suzie kills her father when she gets a chance too in the previous episode. Why are they so against parents in this fucking show? Its like they were written by angsty teenagers with a bug up there ass and vent their frustrations against daddy in this pile of shit show.
Anyhow, most of the episode makes no sense and it isn't all that enjoyable to watch. A lot of it is confused and pointless and in the end adds little to anything in this series...we are way past the halfway point and we still hardly know our main characters. There has been little to no time spent on character development and then we get this episode which gives us no real development on our main cast or this new character.
NEXT TIME: From Out of 1953
